Joint Practice Development

Joint Practice Development (JPD) was defined by Michael Fielding et el as ‘learning new ways of working through mutual engagement that opens up and shares practices with others’. It captures a process that is truly collaborative, not one-way, and the practice is being improved not just moved from one person or place to another.

JPD believes there is no such thing as 'best practice,' just lots of 'good practice.' The Sunderland University Centre for Excellence ion Teacher Training (SUNCETT) pioneered Joint Practice Development as a methodology for effective Continued Professional Development (CPD) under the direction of Professor Maggie Gregson and funded by the then Learning & Skills Improvement Service which has since been adopted by the Education and Training Foundation as an exemplar method of CPD.
