A specification for learning technology that makes it possible to collect data about the wide range of learning experiences a student has both online and offline. This Application Programme Interface (API) captures data in a consistent format about a person or group’s activities from many technologies. The data is then stored in a Learning Record Store that can be accessed by an LMS like Moodle. Sometimes called xAPI or formerly Tin Can.

Experience API (xAPI), also known as the Tin Can API, is an e-learning software specification that allows learning content and learning systems to speak to each other in a manner that records and tracks all types of learning experiences. This makes it possible to collect data about the wide range of experiences a person has, both online and offline.
