Authentic Learning
Authentic learning involves things/skills that students use and need in their current or future life. An authentic learning experience is particularly suited to vocational training. Rather than cook a steak or cut a piece of wood, students are involved in the operation of a restaurant or the building of a house.
Authenticity can be approached academically by asking students to evaluate the performance of a practiced skill from the position of a different role. For example, a hairdressing student evaluates a peer's haircut from the position of the salon owner.
